Despite the bad weather this year visitors are assured of another amazing display of apples at their Apple Weekend. Many orchards have been visited and apples collected to ensure visitors are not disappointed – and they’re on course for another display well in excess of 300 varieties.
If you have any apples growing in your garden you would like identified please bring three typical examples of each variety along to the event, including their stalk and eye. One variety per bag please. If it’s a cooker, then please cook it in advance to see how it cooks, does it purée or hold its shape? Also, if you have grown the apple for many years, you might be asked for additional information about how it grows, how it stores etc. Apples to taste and apples to buy might be in short supply, but all the other stalls and attractions will be in and around the marquee as usual.
