Mike Crates from Penarth Vale of Glamorgan, who works as a fishmonger for at Ashton’s in Cardiff, has won top prize in The British Fish Craft Championship competition after being runner-up 19 times during four decades of competing.
Mr Crates said “Every year I think, I’ll give it one last shot, and now my ambition has been realised….It’s hard to believe after so many years of competing and coming so close, but it feels great.”
The 61 year old British Fish Craft Championship is held in Cardiff Bay and features over 90 competitors, ranging from independent fishmongers to big supermarket chains.
