- Monmouthshire Food Festival Caldicot CastleAt Monmouthshire Food Festival the summer starts here in the historic surroundings of Caldicot Castle and Country Park with a packed programme of demonstrations, talks, tastings and lots of foodie fun for our younger visitors.
- Arvon Ale House Art ExhibitionsThe award-winning Arvon Ale House in Llandrindod Wells is the first micropub in Mid Wales. They offer customers five guest ales and eight perry and cider’s to choose from, with new choices arriving every day. As well as a great atmosphere and wonderul beers, they are also big supporters of local community events which include regular exhibitions of local artists work. Last month they featured work by Karen Rowlands, and are currently featuring a series of work by local landscape painter Mike Shiels. Many of the paintings on display feature local landscapes in Mid Wales including the Elan Valley near Rhayader, the Llandrindod Wells area, Brecon Beacons and more. - Pembrokeshire food park could create ‘1,000 jobs’The new Pembrokeshire food park has been planned to accommodate large-scale food producers, as well as specialist outlets and start-up businesses, and would provide a considerable boost for the local agricultural sector and food and drink industry, as well as creating up to 1,000 jobs.
- ‘Peas Please’ initiative calls for action on vegetables as lack of supply negatively affect the nation’s healthThe Food Foundation, Nourish Scotland and WWF are working alongside organisations in Wales to make it easier for us all to eat more veg. Peas Please is bringing together retailers, food producers and manufacturers, catering companies, restaurants, tourist attractions, public bodies, Councils, the NHS and Government representatives to launch an initiative to put more tasty veg on our plates.

- Bara Brith RecipeBara brith means speckled or mottled bread. Serve spread with plenty of butter and a nice pot of tea. Ingredients Several strong tea bags 300ml (1/2 pt) boiling water (to brew tea) 450g/1lb dried mixed fruit 250g/9oz brown sugar 2 teaspoon mixed spice 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 450g/1lb self-raising flour 1 large egg, beaten Method Infuse tea bags for 3–4 minutes in a jug with boiling water. Put the dried fruit in a large bowl and pour the brewed tea over the fruit. Cover and leave to soak overnight. Next day preheat your oven to 170C/325F/Gas 3. Grease and line a 900g (2 lb) loaf tin. Mix the flour, baking powder and spice into the fruit mixture into a bowl and beat well, and then stir in the sugar. Pour or spoon the mixture into your prepared loaf tin and spread out evenly. Bake the oven and bake for about 1½ hours until firm and well risen, or check that a skewer inserted into the middle comes out clean. Once cooked, leave to stand for 5 minutes, then remove from loaf tin and place on a cooling tray and for a finishing touch – brush honey over the top to glaze.
